Blank "currently streaming" section of home screen widget

While streaming a movie from Amazon Prime, the area at the top of the home screen widget that shows what's playing is completely blank including a transparent thumbnail. It works correctly if I tap it, bringing me to Prime, but is always blank like this. I can't say which apps work and which don't, but I've also noticed that with some apps it stretches the thumbnail to fit in that square, distorting the image.
