Blank home screen after unlocking

Periodically,after unlocking (usually after a little.time has passed since the last unlock), the launcher shows only a blank screen with wallpaper and a weird drop down arrow where the Google at a glance widget is placed. Scrolling the apps, or swiping up/back restores launcher elements.
