I'm in complete agreement with this. I love this community theme, but can't use it satisfactorily until this is implemented.

I would be thrilled to have this feature! Simply being able to use the existing overlay from the app screen on the home screen would make it viable to use more personal photos as a background. The main reason for this is that most people who take photos with their phones are not great photographers! Many of my images are too busy color-wise for me to read the app list over them.
I'd ideally like to apply an overlay to my background image independently from the one that's applied over the full app list. This would allow me to make use of a wider array of (my own bad, but personally important) images , but still preserve the natural separation between the home page and the app list the current overlay provides.
