High battery drain with Google Photos?

I am having battery drain issues of late. Am noticing that Google photos is using a heck of a lot of battery power,even though everything is already backed up.

I have a Google photos widget in one of my homescren folders.

Am noticing that there's a higher battery drain when this is on.

Can this be true? Or is that a red herring?

Any thoughts, suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Goto a folder.

  • Add widget

  • Select Google Photos/memories

    Good question, and it is easier to test than it sounds: take the Google Photos widget out of the folder for a day or two and compare the battery stats afterwards. The widget itself comes from Google Photos, Niagara only hosts it on the home screen, so the work of loading your memories happens on the Photos side.

    If the drain looks the same without the widget, then Google Photos' own backup and sync settings are the better place to look. Either way, it would be great if you reported back here, since others reading this thread will wonder the same thing.
