Launcher search does not work with a physical keyboard

Bug Report: Compatibility Issue with Physical Keyboards and Virtual Keyboard Apps on Tablets

Description:

There is a specific compatibility issue observed when using tablets with physical keyboards and various virtual keyboard applications. When Gboard is set as the virtual keyboard, the launcher search functionality works seamlessly with the physical keyboard. Conversely, using alternative virtual keyboards, such as SwiftKey, disables the ability to use the launcher search with the physical keyboard. This problem does not occur when first calling the home screen. The search does in fact work when first arriving at the homescreen but any subsequent searches do not.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Connect a physical keyboard to a tablet.

2. Set Gboard as the virtual keyboard.

3. Attempt to use the launcher search with the physical keyboard and verify functionality.

4. Change the virtual keyboard to SwiftKey.

5. Attempt again to use the launcher search with the physical keyboard.

Expected Behavior:

The launcher search should function with the physical keyboard, regardless of which virtual keyboard is set.

Actual Behavior:

The launcher search only functions with the physical keyboard when Gboard is set as the virtual keyboard.

Additional Information:

This issue can be consistently recreated by switching the virtual keyboard from Gboard to any other, such as SwiftKey, which then prevents the use of the launcher search with the physical keyboard.
