When I started using Niagara Launcher Pro, I must say I was taken aback a bit by the pricing. I mean, in the end it’s just a launcher? However, I started using it anyway on a subscription base with the idea “if it works out, I will buy the lifetime subscription after a year”.
I must say that now I am a bit shocked, as the subscription was increased by almost 70% and the lifetime by close to 63%.
It now costs 21,99€ for a yearly subscription, which is NOT “a few dollarsa year“ as stated in this blog post. This is significantly more.
This is also not covered by any inflation by any means. 14€ is maybe covering inflation with a bit of a plus, but 21,99€ isn’t.
I can well understand and comprehend the arguments made in the blog post mentioned above, but this price hike feels a bit arbitrary.
Maybe this bitter pill would be easier to swallow if there was at least the pretence of the developers/product managers whatever being “in touch”, but unfortunately, I’m not seeing that here.
So, as a forecast, yearly fee will be 37,99€ in 2027 and 64,99€ by 2029 then?
Yes, I am well aware that I will be able to continue to use the 12,99€ yearly subscription. At the same time I’m asking myself, who will be able and willing to afford this in the future? One time payments may not be a sustainable business model, but alienating potential buyers with astronomical prices probably isn’t either.
