Save and Load my own theme/configuration

I was recently tempted to try out the new themes feature, but there was one major blocker for me: I had no way to store my currently carefully crafted home screen setup. I tried the Back-up and restore feature, but that feels like a hack and it also didn't fully restore everything perfectly.

I'd like to have my current background and settings like a theme, so I can quickly get back to it, when trying out other themes.
