Swiping diagonally on Motorola device leads to blank screen

Some swipe gesture on the home screen make the screen go blank, similar to a known Android bug (Blank screen when going home and quickly opening an app).

A diagonal swipe from the bottom to the top will cause this issue. It often appears when trying to use the “swipe up to search” feature.

Using the android home gesture brings back the launcher.
