WhatsApp incoming message notifications not showing on launcher

Incoming WhatsApp messages do not trigger any notification icons, badges, or previews on the launcher homescreen. I only find out that a message has arrived after manually opening the WhatsApp app. Notification access for Niagara Launcher is enabled, and battery optimization for both WhatsApp and Niagara Launcher has been turned off.
