Add more web search engines / providers

This post is for web search engines added by default. For user-created custom search engines, see Custom Search Engines.

Currently when using web suggestions in Niagara Launcher's search, you can choose between DuckDuckGo and Google as the search engine.

We are considering adding more search engines/providers and want to collect feedback from the community. Which search engines would you like to see?

Included search engines

    • DuckDuckGo

    • Brave

    • Kagi

    • Perplexity

    • Start Page

  • since 1.14.6

    • Bing

Considerations

  • Ecosia & Qwant

    • European alternative search engine

    • working on own index

  • Customizable Engine

    • It is difficult to add, since many engines work differently and would require different approaches.

    • We cannot guarantee custom-added search engines will work.

    Hi, I just wanted to add my support, I would really like to see an integration with Kagi, even if it was just to launch the search in the default browser using a get request (in fact that’s literally all I need!). :)

    I was so annoyed with Google shoving their search engine in my face that I started the search for a new launcher. I've been paying for Kagi for a while now, so just became a Pro subscriber after seeing you're planning to support this 🙏

    What furthermore set Niagara apart is good support for foldable: proper adjustments when opening the phone.

    Kia ora, I understand that you want to get suggestions from the search engine. But we should be able to add a custom search engine without suggestion if not compatible or suggestions could come from search engines that you support.

    I’m using my own instance of Searnx (except on my phone…), so obviously web suggestions won’t work, and I don’t except my instance to be added to the launcher :-D
    However it uses the Opensearch protocol, like a bunch of other search engines

    Nova launcher provides this feature, add a custom search query https://my-search-engine/q=%s where ‘%s’ is the searched string.
