In your case it sounds worse than in those threads: there the screen fills in after about a second, while yours needs several taps first. That's worth adding as a comment over there.
One question that would help, and which a reporter on the ColorOS thread found useful: does it also happen when you switch the system to 3 button navigation instead of gestures? For them the problem disappeared that way, which would give us a strong hint about where it comes from.

Reports of the home screen not drawing after leaving an app keep coming from OnePlus devices, collected here: There is a delay when ever we try to go back to home screen from an app and Persistent redraw delay/blank screen when swiping home (ColorOS).
