Music Apps should not shift the favorites list down
Hello,
I absolutely love Niagara, it’s such a breath of fresh air! I have one challenge with it though: when I connect a bluetooth device, all of my favorite shortcuts are moved. Here’s a video demonstrating what I mean.
Longer explanation of the behavior and potential fixes. First, here is my default homescreen:
When the Media widget turns on, it shifts the clock up and appears above my favorite apps. This is great because all of my shortcuts are in the same position I expect them to be, and the new widget is visible and easily accessible in the middle of my screen. Here’s what that looks like:
When a bluetooth device is connected and Music Apps are shown however, instead of shifting the clock up like the Music Widget, it instead shifts all of my favorites down:
Now none of my shortcuts are where I expect them to be and I have to scroll every time I get to the home screen to get to my most used apps which are at the bottom, closest to my thumb.
I feel it’s important to have the homescreen be consistent and predictable, and this breaks that convention. There is another suggestion to show Music apps below favorites. This is a good potential solution. I'd still have to scroll to get to the music apps, but it's more likely that I'll just have to scroll once to open one of them, and from then on I'll use the Media Widget to control it.
Another option would be to have the Music Apps follow the same behavior as the Media Widget: display beneath the calendar/clock widget and shift that up, rather than shifting your favorites down.

I very need this…If I don't specifically move the widget down, the time display at the top will shrink🤏🏻

I found this in the “similar posts” of my own post. I don't have this problem with music apps specifically since I don't set one, I just use the music widget, but the music widget itself is huge and pushes everything down by a lot of pixels.
My proposal to solve this is the same I suggested in my linked post. Have a setting that pushes things up instead of down when space is available, thus avoiding the scrollbar.

Also: why not add the music app icons in diagonal fashion. I know it would go against the other design language, though this is a special scenario which I believe can justify it.
I only selected a portion of my music/podcast/audio book apps to not clutter the home screen to badly when encountering this issue.

What I do is put all music apps in a pop up side swipe to my main music app (Spotify in my instance), so only Spotify goes to the top. When I swipe over Spotify I've got all my audio apps plus the Spotify widget, all in one app, so only one app goes to the top
Perhaps you've got too many apps on your favourites and chosen the “set as music app” for each of them, rearranging your favorites too much when connected to a speaker/Bluetooth buds

That’s what I do for a workaround as well. I would love to have no music apps in my favorites and have them appear when a bluetooth device is connected, which seems like the intended functionality. But even if it’s just a single music app, it doesn’t work for me when it shifts everything else in the favorites list down.

I agree with the sentiment here, though I might solve it differently. One option would be to only show the audio apps when nothing is playing, its logical that when I connect my earbuds my next step is to select something to listen to, but its not logical that when I am listening to something everytine I go to the Home page I'm looking to listen to something else.
I think more broadly moving context aware aspects to the Niagara button or a similar feature might be useful. Press to pop up the list of audio apps etc.
